Education and Opportunity in Kenya

Brett Weiss is the Founder and President of AscendKenya, formerly the Weiss Scholarship Foundation, and a member of the Rotary Club of Naperville. A retired high school social studies teacher, Brett created the organization after a 2009 trip to Kenya inspired him to help expand educational opportunities for children in underserved communities. AscendKenya was founded in memory of Brett’s parents, Bernard and Elsie Weiss, who grew up poor in Chicago during the Great Depression and believed deeply in the power of education. Their commitment to ensuring their children had strong educational opportunities became the inspiration for AscendKenya’s mission. AscendKenya supports talented, underserved youth in Kenya through scholarships, school supplies, mentorship, academic monitoring, leadership development, and other student support. The organization’s work goes beyond paying school fees by helping students overcome practical barriers that often prevent them from continuing their education. Brett will share how AscendKenya partners with local communities, schools, families, and Rotary clubs to create long-term educational opportunities and help students build better futures for themselves and their communities. |
